I can say that to you confidently, because I’ve been where you most likely are now;
to that point of uncertainty, of questioning and self-doubt. It’s a place of fear and confusion, and often follows a time of great personal crisis.
I know mine did. When a close personal relationship with the mother of my daughter fell apart and ended in separation, it threw me into chaos about who I was and where I was going in life. I needed to know why my life was producing these results, and more importantly what I could do about it.
For me, the answer seemed to be in my own personal development. To understand the question I was asking of my life, about the results being created, I needed to understand more about me. I wanted to know who I had become, and how it all seemed to happen without my awareness.
Four years ago when I started my personal development, I began to realize the costs of one decision I made when I was 8 years old. It cost me many years of love and affinity for my family and friends. From the age of eight, I was aware that all my friends were “better off” than me. Their family homes were much bigger and nicer than my family had, and their parents were doing better jobs than mine were. We were a family of seven living in a big one-room flat. One day I realized that I was ashamed to invite my friends home, and ultimately decided not to invite them anymore. I didn’t tell them the truth about what I was up to.
I decided to work hard, to help my parents in the field to earn more money, to buy a better and bigger family home to show my friends. However, that approach didn’t work. So, I quit and dropped out of school. I decided that at the age of 17, I was going to go into business on my own. I had many jobs, traveled and studied. I spent most of my money buying things, hoping I would feel good about myself, and prove to my family and friends that my life was fine and I didn’t need anyone to help.
The fact is I needed someone to help me learn about myself. There were a lot of choices in groups or organizations claiming they could help me, and eventually I chose Landmark Education. The four years with them were part of a very unsettling yet definitely powerful time in my life. I discovered that I was often ‘holding back’ from life, just never quite giving it the full shot.
I was blessed to have had a fulfilling and interesting career path, one filled with challenges and some success. My involvement in the hospitality industry allowed me to develop great warmth and rapport with people. Several other business interests I had assured me that I was doing well enough in my chosen pursuits.
However I was feeling that something was missing. That’s when I found Bob Proctor’s LifeSuccess program. The strength in his conviction just seemed to touch a raw nerve inside me.
